Monday Catchup

Image
Before I start, I want to say hello to a few new followers on Bloglovin and to thank you for your encouraging comments.  I have been blogging for over a year now and although I am mainly doing it as a kind of diary for myself, it's lovely to have a few followers :-) Well I woke up Saturday morning to a card and chocolates for Valentines Day, which was very nice. We had to go out for a bit of shopping and we intended to buy a "meal deal" for the evening and OH was going to cook for me.  Tesco's deal was £20 but I saw this and we both love Indian food although we don't buy ready meals usually but this meal was supposed to be a treat for both of us. Cost £6.30. We brought this as a side dish for £1.50 as it was on offer but to be honest we didn't need this extra as there was already plenty for two. Pudding was in the reduced section for £2.65.   OH laid the table and we had the fairy lights on (that's why this isn't a clear photo) and we both put our glad...

Maybe Time for a Change

Image
The snowdrops are peeping through the fence posts again this year. I didn't think they would come through as we really have piled up the grass cuttings and ash over the last year in their area but although they look so delicate, it just shows they are stronger than they look. I brought these primroses to put in a pot by the front door today, 99p from Home Bargains and they were being snapped up by people.  I just felt the need to have a little bit of colour to catch my eye outside and there are no signs yet of any daffodils coming through. Well I've shown you some pretty photos before I explain my blog title.  We have decided to apply for a council house in the village.  We have loved being in this cottage, with views like this how could we not. but there is a downside.. mould over all the walls, This is my bedroom ceiling.  We have tried to keep it at bay, we wash the walls down with white vinegar and then redecorate but it is a lot worse in other rooms.  My cl...

February through the Window 2!

Image
I seem to be having a window theme this month!   It's been great this week that the temperature has risen so much that the snow has cleared and we drove out at the weekend to do a food shop.  On the way home we stopped to take a look at a ruin that OH had had previously spotted that was having some work done on it.  He hadn't told me it was up quite a steep hill though!  The Woodland Trust had taken it over and built a framework within the remaining three walls of what looked like an old cottage and just put a roof over it.  It was open to the elements still but they have put in a couple of barbecues so it could be used as an entertainment area. Different use of a building I thought and in the summer it will be nice for the walkers.  Look at the lovely view through this little window. I like that someone has put the twigs in to divide it into panes. Changing the subject entirely look at all these lovely yummy bits of fabric I have acquired this week! Each p...

February through the Window

Image
We have had snow and icy conditions throughout the last two weeks.  It's amazing but there are different types of snow and we have had a lot of bitty snow, lots of powdery snow that blows around in the wind and icy snow that crunches underfoot.  Today we have had about 5 inches of lovely fluffy snow and that is the best kind I think. It's 4pm now and the sky is full of it still. OH is nearly up to his knees in the back garden!  It is so quiet outside as the snow muffles the sounds. You can see the sky is full of it.  Tomorrow we will be relying on the snow plough to come up and grit the road.  We have had a few days where we have been unable to get the car out down the hill.  Although I have been busy at work, we have been doing hundreds of items of clothing which are heading off to the Falkland Islands!, I have been doing a little bit of sewing Squares put together to make a few more handbags, Some tweed bunting made with scraps of tweed. A bit of appliqué...

Happy Birthday to Meee!!

Image
It was my Birthday this week and I couldn't resist saving what i could of this beautiful wrapping paper that one of my gifts came in.  These were inside Such lovely cake plates and they look lovely tied with ribbon.  I will have to issue invitations made using my stamp to come round for tea and cake I think. It's still a bit snowy and icy this week and OH has been chopping some of the wood that came down in the winds.  He had to work on my big day so I went out for the day with my BF to an auction.  I am an auction novice, never having bid before but I enjoyed having a good look at the lots before it started off. I spied this little cottage teapot in this box so made a note of its number. These two dogs were quite cute.  Another friend of mine has a pair like these on her mantelpiece so I wanted to look out for these. A large Highland Stoneware plate which sells for quite a lot of money usually. My BF liked this inlaid table and I liked all this furniture I also...

Sunshine and Snow

Image
Alex having a stroll outside on a cold but sunny day. He has spent most of his time lately, curled up on the sofa enjoying the warmth of the stove.  So have I but I wrapped up to have a little stroll down the road.  It is pretty icy underfoot and we haven't been able to get the car down the hill for a couple of days. Look at the blue sky!  It's very changeable and can quickly become a whiteout. I like to put my footprints into areas of untrodden snow in the garden, a childish pleasure. My friends husband picked me up in his 4x4 to take us to church today.  We still slid a bit downhill but once down, the main roads were fine. I hadn't been for three weeks so It was nice to see people and I enjoyed singing.  Instead of coffee afterwards we all had soup and a roll, a homemade veg and lentil soup which went down a treat. I still haven't been food shopping because we are waiting to get the car fixed tomorrow.  I wonder if they will cancel the appointment th...

Yes! We finally have Power!

Image
After five days we finally got the power back on late last night after a bit of drama when the electric pole near our house decided to go bang and put those who had a few lights on, out again!  We heard a buzzing and then a surge went through the cottage.  When we went into the hallway we could smell burning.  Tuesday night there was a bolt of lightening that hit the exposed pylon Scottish Power were working on, it caught fire and caused a load more blackouts.  I was on the phone at the time and I swear sparks flew out of the ear piece! I have heard of someone having all their wall sockets blown out and loads of computers ruined.  It was great to get up and find full power this morning especially as we had had snow overnight.   Is this the lull before the next storm arrives later though as forecasted and maybe we could lose the power again. Just in case I have done six loads of washing to catch up.  I was washing undies by hand but its amazing how it b...
